Sunday Reflection

On the contrary, we cannot do without the parts of the body that seem to be weaker; and those parts that we think aren't worth very much are the ones which we treat with greater care; while the parts of the body which don't look very nice are treated with special modesty, which the more beautiful parts do not need. God himself has put the body together in such a way as to give greater honor to those parts that need it. And so, there is no division in the body, but all its different parts have the same concern for one another. If one part of the body suffers, all the other parts suffer with it; if one part is praised, all the other parts share its happiness. - 1 Corinthians 12: 22-26

We all have one body with different parts. Each part serves a purpose that helps our body function. Most people don’t necessarily look at the body as a huge part of their spirituality. They think mostly of a person’s soul and their spirit and how big a heart they have or their empathy for others. But God also gave us a physical body. He expects us to take care of all its parts and respect his creation. Basically, treat it like the temple it is. Like the parts of our bodies, we are all the body of Christ and we all have a purpose like a body part does. Whether we are here to teach, heal or have the power to work miracles we all have a job to do. Taking care of the body and mind God has given us is another way of honoring God’s creation. In order for us to help others and give of ourselves fully we have to take care of the temple God gave us. It’s like when the flight attendant says to put the mask on yourself first so you can help others. Taking care of yourself is not a one-time stand-alone project, it’s a forever thing, a lifetime commitment until you have the Christ given eternal body. The mind, body and soul are all integral to the other. One cannot work to its fullest potential without the other. Consistently working on yourself is important for elevation. This process will make you feel whole, so when pouring into others you will never feel empty.
