Now, this is not really what I did on my fitness journey but how I feel it helped with the process of loving the body I’m in. I can say I’ve always been into fitness. When I was younger, I took a variety (ballet, tap, & African) of dance lessons and I’ve played sports my whole life, so working out and going to the gym wasn’t a challenge for me. I do applaud the people who have never worked out and are starting their fitness journey from the ground up because it’s definitely harder for someone that’s not used to working out to get up and push themselves to do it.
So, my “fitness journey” started the summer of 2016. My goal was to lose some weight and tone up. I didn’t feel like I was over weight or anything I just wanted to slim down. I mainly ran a lot, changed up my diet and lost 30lbs that summer. I was so proud of myself for accomplishing that. In the beginning of 2017, I had almost gained back half the weight I lost. I started to feel myself slip back into a depression and lose myself in the process. I started not to care for a while basically forgetting why I started in the first place.
In the process of that fitness journey I was finding myself, learning about me and becoming closer to God. As time had gone on, I lost sight of that., so many things had happened during that time I felt I lost my way and a part of me. Eventually I got back on track and back to the process of my fitness journey and learning to love myself again. Fast forward to the past few months I’m currently only 3lbs from my goal weight, which I’m very happy about. I got back to feeling like myself again.
During this whole process I learned patience and that learning how to love myself is not just one layer or a hump you get over. It’s not just a “hey, I love myself” one day and the next day you don’t, its an everyday thing we have to work on. I have to remind myself everyday to love me and take care of me. Take care of yourself and push yourself towards whatever goal you’re trying to meet. Lao Tzu said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”. Great things take time and the journey you take to get to your goal will be worth the reward in the end.
